Jealousy in the air tonight I can tell.

I will never understand that but oh well.

Nothing makes me sadder than someone going out of their way to make somebody else feel bad about themselves.
Unless of course, they are going out of their way to try and make me feel bad. Then... I absolutely love that.

The reason I love this is because I know why these people (particularly woman) are doing this. It's all jealousy.

When I was younger , I never understood why people were so rude to one another. Especially girls.
We, as woman have come so far and I just feel like this generation of young woman are trying to break eachother down and hurt eachother when we really should be empowering and helping eachother succeed.
We are all sisters.  We are all the same.
What gives nasty people the right to try and make you feel bad about being you and doing the things you love?
Nada.

I'm sure we have all been a victim of bullying in the past. I'll touch on my experiences another day but in my opinion..bullies are worthless. They come in all shapes and sizes and can get to you through many different forms of contact. They may be at your work, your school or even on your Facebook. It's not okay to make somebody feel bad about themselves. It's never okay.

Didn't they ever learn that "if you don't have anything nice to say - don't say anything at all." ?! I mean it's really not that hard.

I get so fired up and angry whenever I see somebody trying to put someone else down. But my mum told me in highschool "it's all jealousy" and to "never let somebody pull you down. They are beneath you". Wise words mamacita. Wisest woman I know.
These words have stuck with me through the years. They help me every day.

I'm 21 and I still see some form of bullying everyday. I'm not perfect. I don't get along with everyone and that's okay. But I don't go out of my way to make that person feel bad about themselves because that's wrong and nobody deserves to feel alone and to dislike themselves.

I'm writing this because I am sick and tired of woman and young girls treating eachother like shit.
There's no need to hate someone because of the way they look or because of where they are from. You come across as jealous, pathetic and you really need to sort out your life.

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Fucker."

Coffee ma'am?

You know when you see a friend that you haven't seen in a while.
You bump into each other in a shop or something.
It's all like...
"Oh my god hey babe!! let's catch up for a coffee asap. I'll message you!"
And you are like...
"Yes! for sure. i'll insta you."

And then i walk away feeling all anxious because i don't even like coffee.
I can't be the only one..surely not.

Well this is how i used to be but then i was told about a " long macchiato " and my life was never the same again..
That's a bit extreme but honestly.. it was amazing!
No more anxiety attacks over what kind of coffee I will get anymore.

Now that i am all grown up and like the odd coffee (not just long mac's anymore!) I am starting to figure out my favourite coffee spots around perth, It's really awfully exciting!

  • Little Willy's - Northbridge
  • Pizzaca - Scarborough/North Beach
  • Lowdown - Perth CBD
  • Yelo - North Beach
  • Chocolateria San Churro - Northbridge
  • Bagels & Beans - West Perth
All of the above do awesome coffee with a great selection of different types. All offer a different feel to them and are a must to visit. I'm always at Pizzaca on a Saturday morning with Rob and Jasper the friendly dog so if you see me say "hey!"

Tables turn, Bridges burn, You live and learn.

Ever since I moved From New Zealand to Perth two years ago, i've never felt so relaxed and at peace with myself.
It may be all of the extra vitamin D that i'm  or maybe it's all the yum food I'm consuming but i'm pretty sure it's because Perth and Australia in general, is an amazing place to live.

New Zealand is absolutely gorgeous and everyone is so lovely (Don't get me wrong!)
It will always be home but you know sometimes you need to force yourself to change.
You sometimes get so comfortable and stuck in your routines that you just feel stuck.
You don't need to make a big change - just a few small ones to get yourself out of that rut. Take chances and try new things. Put yourself out there and meet new people. It's all about growing and learning and finding out who you really are.

Perth. It's forced me to grow up a lot and to accept that i cant change everything - even if i wanted to more than anything.
I have taken chances and friendships have changed or ended for one reason or another but everything happens for a reason and i am so blessed that things have worked out the way they have. Everything is perfect.

I have grown. I'm so much more confident and happy with myself than i ever have been before. I grew into the girl (woman..i'm actually a woman but i still like to say i'm a girl) that i am today.
Some people disliked this. I don't know if it was jealousy or actual hate but they would just complain that i am "different" and that i have "changed".
If anyone ever says that to you. Ever. You tell them to "fuck off". You don't need that negativity in your life. Not from anybody.

"Best friends" or just "acquaintances". It doesn't matter. Nobody knows you like you do and you don't ever need to take shit from anybody. Period.

I've had to learn the hard way that yes, people do change but everything happens for a reason.
If they aren't meant to be in your life and they walk away from you when life is hard then just let them walk.
They don't deserve to be around you when life is good again.

"Tables turn, bridges burn, you live and learn."
This is perfect. Sums it all up.

Never be afraid to step out and just be who you want to be.
Never be afraid of what people may think of you.
Take some chances and make some changes.
Don't be afraid of what may come.
You are the only one who matters. It's your life. Live it the way you want to.

Curls For The Girls

What does this even mean? Does it mean that guys with curly hair are attractive?
What about the lead singer from Simply Red? Anybody take him into consideration when they made up that saying?! Huh?! Did they?!

That's actually awful Melissa.

Anyway. This weekend I had the most awesome time with my crew on a boat. A mother flippen boat.
It was my beautiful friend Doreen's birthday and I honestly had the best time with everyone. So many laughs and jokes and bottles of passion pop.
it was insane!

So, I was in a dilemma.
What do I wear? What shoes are appropriate? What makeup would be good for a summers arvo? Do I even bother shaving my legs?
All these questions.
So hard being a girl.
So much to do.
One thing I was positive about was my hair. Aka the lions mane.
I have the most epic hair curler. It's called the Babyliss Pro Porcelain Conical Wand.(32mm-19mm)
I got it back in NZ for approx $110 and it had been my hairs bestie ever since. For summer especially.

It has a range of different heat settings so you can choose how hot you want it and therefor how curly your hair will be in the end.
This season is all about big waves and bouncy curls so maybe invest in one or speak to your hair dresser about what curler would best suit your type of hair style and hair.
Always use a heat defense serum or spray before curling your hair and if you are going to be doing it often..try getting a heat protective shampoo and conditioner.

I achieved my look from separating my hair in four different layers and spraying them all with a TRESemmé heat defense spray. You can get this from your Coles, woolies or Priceline. Wait for it to soak in. While it is soaking in - turn your hair wand on. I like to heat and use it at around 240 because I want big curls that last.
Next- brush your hair and hold the wand up on an angle and twist your hair around the wand. Hold for about 10 seconds or longer depending on how strong and tight you want your curls.
Be super careful to not burn yourself! It may feel a little awkward but after the third use you will have your angles down!
After you have curled all sections of your hair, flick your head upside down and hairspray it while scrunching your hair with your hands.
Do a similar scrunch and spray dance while styling the top layer. Never forget the back of your head. No one wants a flat head.
Your curls will drop but you can always take a travel can of spray with you for top ups.
Don't overdo it with the spray because it can become too heavy and gluggy and make you look..damp? Or sticky? Slimey? All these words are NOT what we are aiming for so take it easy.

If you are looking at getting one..(which I think is an awesome idea) check out your hair salon or but online at

Cyber

Newest addition to my MAC lip colour collection is the famous Cyber.
Stunning!

I've been meaning to get it for ages but to be honest I was a little but scared.
It's so dark.
I love dark lipsticks. But this is so dark.
And then I did it.
I got crazy and was just like.. Getting other things at the counter and the lovely girl was like "anything else you need honey?" and I basically just yelled it at her. "CYBER I WANT CYBER PLEASE!!!"
She was all shocked and I was so embarrassed.
But long story short she got it for me and I was so excited to get if out of the wee box and get it on my lips.
At first I was like "Mel, you look dead." And then I looked again and was like "girl, you look fine" in my head I had a bit of a southern accent. I sounded awesomez

The outcome of this lippy is an A+ ! It's sexy yet sophisticated and is the right colour for winter days and summer nights. Perfect for pale skin but also looks beautiful with a bit of bronzer and and all over tan! (Check my St Tropez Tanning entry for tips!)
I personally would try and keep the eyes to a minimal when wearing this lippy. You don't want to over-power it and sometimes it's nice to have nakey eyes with a bold lip colour.

Next time you go to the MAC stand give it a try. And then wait 5 seconds and then look again! You'll be surprised!

Queen Bey

This past week has been amazing. I was lucky enough to get a ticket to Beyonce after missing out twice.
I can honestly say.. She has changed my life! I know it sounds ridiculous but honestly I just couldn't deal! Like.. I just cried the whole time. She was absolutely amazing.
She commanded the stage. She owned it. The dancers were amazing but I couldn't even look at anyone else but her.
Her voice. She was perfect. Absolutely perfect! Every note.

I.am.inlove.with.beyonce.

She works so hard and deserves absolutely everything she has. I feel so blessed to be able to watch her do what she loves and if you ever have the chance to see her-do it.
I came out of the Perth Arena and felt like a different person. I felt blessed. For everything I have and everything I have accomplished and I felt determined.
Determined to follow my dreams and make something of myself.

Sometimes that's all you need. A boost. A wake up call.
Life is too short to not follow your dreams and to not take risks and chances.
Watch me work it everyone.
Big changes are coming and I am so so SO excited!!!

Thank you to everyone. And to queen Bey!

Melbourne cup!!!

GOOOOOO BROWN PANTHER!!!!!!

I love Melbourne Cup Race day. Absolutely adore it! The outfits! Fascinators! The horsies! Just the whole buzz about it!
This year I forgot to book the day off so I'm working BUT I'm still excited! We are having little sweeps at work and everything! So cute!

By far one of the things I most look forward to is the outfits and makeup and hair of all the socialites in the paper the next day!
Here are some of my looks for Race day!
When wearing a bright headpiece I would go for minimal eye makeup and a pop of colour on the lips. You don't want to look too heavy and remember.. Less is more! When it comes to eye shadow on race day anyway!
I'm wearing "please me" lip colour from mac. This is one of the most versatile lippies I have from mac. It's literally a must have!! For the eyes I just added my mac moon cake to my lids and near the tear duct to open my eyes up.
To finish I used my mineral skin finish powder. This really adds a nice shimmer finish and also locks all your makeup in.
(I will upload a tutorial later for this look :)

For my second look I stuck with the thought that "less is more". Usually I never ever think that less is more. It doesn't make sense. But when it comes to race day and you are mingling with good looking people all day and it's hot and a bit sweaty I do believe that LESS IS MORE!
I used Ardell lashes for this look. I think they are the Demi. I could wear these lashes all day every day! They make me feel like a Kardashian Sister or Princess Jasmine!
I again used my wonderful mooncake from Mac and also powdered my lids with Woodwinked from mac also. This colour is great for summer! Looks sexy every day of the week!
A quick flick of eye liner and Lucas pawpaw for the lips and I was done! Boom! Bang!!

Have a wonderful day everyone! Put your bets in and fingers crossed!!
Tag me in your Raceday looks on Instagram! @melmurphy go oooonnn do it!!
